Amazing Wedding Video!

This is an incredible wedding video idea – so much fun. Totally captures the essence of what must have been an awesome, fun day. My one regret of our big day is that there was no video.

Check it out. Amazing.

Looks expensive!

Themed wedding? Yes, no, maybe so…by Abby Bramski

Hello all – please enjoy our first guest post by Abby Bramski!

Princess Leia walking down the aisle with a storm trooper bridal party might not be your thing, but there is no denying that themed weddings are growing in popularity. There might be something to them.   There are countless variations, ranging from specific color schemes to guests clad in Halloween costumes. If you pick a theme for your wedding, it will determine more than just the dress code for your guests. The theme should be introduced and well represented by your wedding invitations and other stationery. The theme that you select may make it difficult to find the perfect invitations. It is important to get started as early as possible.  Throwing a themed wedding has many advantages and disadvantages, but can also make a wedding day more memorable.

Having themed bridal shower invitations is a great way to ensure cohesiveness through your wedding journey. It is important to note that some themes require a larger financial commitment than others. For example, if you go with a simple color theme, it is easy to find wedding invitations and wedding favors in most party stores. If you pick something more unconventional, however, you are probably going to require a special order. While this can be cost prohibitive, if the theme means a lot to you, you’ll be happier in the long run. Before purchasing expensive save the date cards and other stationery, figure out what makes you happy, you won’t regret it once the sticker shock wears off.

Wedding favors are also a great way to elevate your chosen theme. Most people go to a party shop to look for wedding favors, but your theme will determine whether or not that is the right course of action. Thinking outside the box is important for themed weddings, as many of the perfect items will not be waiting for you at a traditional store.

When you send out your wedding invitations, make sure that you include any specific information about how people are expected to dress. A Victorian theme may be easy for you to interpret, but your guests may need more information as to what is appropriate. While most guests will abide by the wedding’s theme, some may be unable to fit into the theme, as theme weddings are more expensive and sometimes confusing to older generations.

If you are lucky enough to have a wedding planner, be sure to ask them for recommendations regarding themed bridal shower invitations and save the date cards. Many people make the mistake of involving their wedding planner in only the final invitations, but if they are involved from the beginning, you are more likely to send out cards that complement each other. As an added bonus, wedding planners typically have good contacts in every facet of the wedding industry, increasing the likelihood that you’ll receive a deal on your invites.

When all is said and done, a themed wedding may be more difficult to pull off, but the photographs and memories will make it all worthwhile. Allow your wedding day to truly be about you and your spouse by picking a theme that you both love. There is a chance that your family and friends won’t get it. This day is not about them, it’s about you. Do what YOU want. It’s your day.

The road from here to there…

Hi all –

I apologize for my month long absence.

I have been hard at work making dough to pay for our event.

Yeah—- something like that. Thank you Dogg.

There are oh so many things surfacing that need to be done… PAID FOR.

To all of my married friends… I had no idea.

This beast is all consuming. Not just $$, but energy and passion. The instant Alex and I start talking about things… it turns into a fight. Planning a wedding is the perfect pre-marital counseling. You have to employ all of your negotiation, compromise and sacrifice skills. Many of them I am creating as I go along, I find myself perpetually unprepared for the drama we are facing. Some is even coming from within the family… what the &*%$ man? All I am trying to do is throw a good party and have my friends and family around. It’s been tough and we can make it through IKEA without fighting.. this wedding biz-nasty is no joke!

  • We picked our photographer
    • She is an amazingly talented artist – I am so excited to meet at our engagement shoot.
  • We found our caker
    • We’re going to try a spin on the traditional – but NOT cupcakes…

Also – I have a fabulous gym buddy and we have been working out 3-4x per week.  Though I have been trying to eat better and stave off alcohol, neither of us are seeing the results that we want. I am going to have to make some major dietary changes in order to get to where I want to be.  I do not want to starve myself or become a gym rat – but something has to give.

The thing is, many of us want to see results right away. However, we spend months, even years, earning the body that we are not happy with. Some overeat; others fall into a sedentary lifestyle or drink too much booze. It does not erase itself overnight just because I have decided to take a Zumba class or two.

For me, this will equate to running first thing in the morning and eating clean – think lean proteins and steamed veggies with a cheat day (meal) on the weekends. When I was in my early 20’s I was a fitness trainer and group class instructor. I achieved a body fat percentage of 7% which is a tough thing to do for most women. My lifestyle at that time was not healthy mostly supplements and meal replacement bars. I began to look a bit more cut and bulky than I had intended and then swore off the gym. However the pendulum has swung the other way and now I am behaving as though I do not know what it takes to get in shape or how it is that I got here, kinda chubby.

However on this leap day, a magical rare day, I will begin taking the steps necessary to earn the body I want – the healthy body for my psyche and future –and make it a reality. Annelice and I did interval training runs today at lunch and I will return to the gym after work to run again and either kick box or do some weights.

Coming soon there will be guest posts from some of my amazing friends and family who are incredibly talented in their fields and have graciously agreed to share their invaluable knowledge of many facets of the wedding day – health, beauty, décor, music, event planning etc.  Real advice from real people, that’s how we do.

Stay tuned and posted!

As always, thank you so much for reading.

Wednesday Quick shot of bridal beauty!

Tiara kit by the woman designing my bouquet!

Catchin’ on up!

Hello my dear friends –

It’s been awhile since I have posted and for that I apologize. The wedding journey is still in full swing and now we are entering the final 6 months… almost.

A lot has happened since I have last written:

  • Alex and I found a wedding venue that we love
    • Mymoon
    • We put down a 25% deposit securing our late July nuptials
  • I found my wedding dress
    • It has arrived at (gasp) David’s Bridal
    • I just have to find the time to pick it up…
  • Our Save the Dates are finished (READ: corrected)
    • I ordered them ahead of time and they said the wrong date/ location
  • I may have lost half of my bridesmaids
    • Friends drift apart, its heartbreaking
    • Thankfully I have found a whole new group of women whom I adore who are fabulous and enchanting
    • The stalwart, faithful “in it for the long-haul” friends I do have are now dearer to me than I could have ever imagined. I love you; you know precisely who you are.
  • My mother has come up with some insanely great ideas for favors, centerpieces and bridal party adornments including my steampunk bouquet.
    • This is going to be a damn good looking party y’all!
  • My father has some incredible ideas for the ceremony and music that will be astoundingly symbolic and sentimental.

All in all we have a good thing going. I have finished my BA (15-year-plan, Holla!) and now look forward to focusing on the wedding and all that it entails. Been hitting the gym daily with my awesome workout buddy and figuring out what type of grooming/ pampering schedule I need to be on. Funny thing is there is no list of what you should be doing for yourself for brides. Seems like there should be. Guess I’ll have to write one up.

So much more to follow. We moved into a new place and were promptly burgled (lost my jewelry and my computer with our guest list, DRAT!) right before the holidays. We are trying to figure out which end is up in our new world. We are blessed to have found love and jobs we enjoy, so the future is bright. We’re going to be just fine.

Have a fantastic day, thank you for your continued readership!

How it’s gotta be…

Dear Mom & Dad,

So here’s the deal.

I know that you really are excited about Alex and I getting married.

We are so very excited too.

As you know, we have been trying really hard to make this wedding happen in a way that keeps everyone happy as we have a ton of really strong personalities swirling around our event, not to mention the headache and drama of family and friends living thousands of miles away. This is hard and to be honest… Shi* is bad.

Our wedding venue fell through last night as we were asked for 30K for food alone. Now, perhaps to some that’s the price of having a wedding and you know what, if it is, good for you. I cannot imagine spending that much on food for 100 people. That does not work for me. In a world where thousands starve and my contemporaries are camped out in a park speaking out against a corporate structure that robs the poor, spending that astronomical sum of money on a few canapés and a leg of lamb just does not add up.

So here we are 530 days from the moment Alex proposed and we have accomplished nothing. Alex refuses to elope despite my compelling arguments and  tearful pleading. We are finally beginning to feel the firm ground of stability as we slowly shave away the debt we compiled in our nearly two years of unemployment. I have got school debt and he and I are still paying off my surgery.

So parentals here comes the money shot – you have both got to sell your homes and all of your belongings so that our guests can get drunk and fat at our expense. Dad – I need to you provide entertainment and Mom – it’s up to you to make all of the favors and centerpieces with your crafting brilliance. But we’ll need 30K for the food. Just the food. Only the food is covered with the 30K, just to be clear. That sounds about right, totally rational and completely doable.

We’ll be waiting patiently for the wire transfers to hit our accounts so we can piss away your hard-earned money on chow.

Have a great weekend!

Love you.

Please send cash.
